Deer photos

We have some visiting deer in the yard by the shop. There is a pond over there and
with the rain the last few days the grass is growing good. I see them through the
window and then sneak outside around the corner of the building to shoot the pics.
The picture with the pheasant was shot a different day than the others.
If anyone can use any part of them for an engraving somehow, feel free.

That deer in 2,3,4 & 5 sure has a "scruffy" looking coat and doesn't look really healthy to me. Sort of on the gaunt side. Not the normal smooth coat and rounded features of the body. I think it has Chronic Wasting Disease.

I noticed the coat on that one looked rough too. A few weeks back Karla hit a deer with the car. The car and the deer didn't look too good after that. That is true though SVD. Maybe it was the rain and the coat was wet. It rained on/off all day yesterday when the pics were shot. The last two pics were shot on another day when the sun was out.

All of the deer in our area have had a really rough winter, they look as equally gaunt as Doc describes. Ours are Muley's though, and have twice the amount of ear and less tail

They are gobbling up all the new grass they can hold right now, their winter coats are sluffing off and most will look much better in a month or so.

Nice photos Steve, liked the one with the Pheasant, as they are also coming out of the woodwork right now.

I mentioned it because Nebraska has CWD in their deer population and that particular deer has the look of some I've seen online. I sent the photos to a vet to see what he thinks too. CWD is a variation of "mad cow disease", but it's the deer version of it.

Steve, thanks for showing the photos. Also, they look quite normal and healthy for this time of year. They are about to shed their winter fur for their sleek summer coats - and that is why they appear scruffy, like they could be suffering from CWD (which I am sure they aren't). Attached is photo taken minutes ago from my current studio window (we are renting while our house and my studio are being remodeled). There were about a dozen mule deer in the group - many looking quite scruffy. The other photo of the whitetails was taken in the summer from our living room window.

Good pictures Bill! The coat on that one does look similar to these Nebraska deer.
Your pond/waterfall is super! I wish this pond looked that good. We don't have any rocks to speak of to work with in Nebraska. The gardening centers have some that I think they get from Colorado but they want fortune for them. Rocks in the middle of Nebraska are rare. We have a lot of corn and grass though.
