Practice Knife in progress
I copied and traced a design from Ron Smith's Advanced drawing of scrolls.
Tracing was done with Adobe Illustrator, Backgrounds with Photoshop.

Then I started cutting, All with Steve's 96deg detail template. Background was done with a square and than stippled.
Some scrolls are a bit wobbly and doglegged... I began shading and noticed I still need a lot of practice... Please comment..

Your construct line and background sound good. I don't know for the shadows lines because the picture is to small. good job in a few time

Looks damn good to me
I can see a few dogleg bits but just shows a good design takes your eyes allover and they don`t really show at all unless you know about things like that. Excellent practice.

It is better Gert. Try to keep the same space between your start of shading and in the end you up your hand to have larger line and make black.
You are to the good way.

You're right Roland, the more even the lines, the smoother the shading. Merci for the info!

I first cut with a 96deg (cross hatch) then I level out with a big and a small flat and then I stipple with a sharp and square point made with Roland Baptiste inlay template (the small one). Make sure it's very sharp = a lot of resharpening.

Hi Gert, Thanks.The completed side has come out extremely nice.The whole scroll is beautiful,the shading and background especially.96 v for shading in the scrolls?

Hi Gert. I wish I could explain my feelings about your work better, but perfection is a great goal and should be strived for always; however excepting a not so perfect outcome is still satisfying. I've been told I am a perfectionist because others not so picky or trained or skilled thick so, but I don't believe I can ever do a job to perfection. I try but something will happen. That is why I like this forum; and in a coulpe words ( helpful critque ). I say good job and keep on doing It. For all those trying so hard keep going, because how many 300 games does a pro bowlder get after his fist one. Chickenscratcher.
