Default Hello from NC

Hey, my name is Josh and I do hammer and chisel engraving mostly on aluminum motorcycle parts. I have probably got 40 or 50 hours into this craft and I have taken a liking to carving old tattoo flash.

My handles are steel turned on a lathe that I keep oiled with some good ol' 5W-30, my chisel points are sharpened by hand without fixtures (please don't crucify me). Only using a flat tip graver and square tip graver right now (but they are genuine Lindsay HSS blanks, I didn't skimp there!). My background stippling is done with a wood nail that I reshape on the bench grinder from time to time.

Here is the most recent thing I "finished." It is done on an old sportster primary cover that I am using for practice.

EDIT: got the pics to work

Not too far from here. There are quite a few noted engravers within your reach if you need any advice or help.

you have a good start but as you know hammer and chisel are very slow, getting some sharpening templates will help
