Default Lost in da woods

Hi all,
I have been a member of this forum for a while, but have not posted on it. My one try at engraving was on the tsuba I made for a tanto. I made it from 1/4 X 1 brass stock using a grave that I picked up at a flea market.
I read somewhere that the grave needs an angle ground on the end of it before you can cut metal with it. I have no way of doing this. Any suggestions.

I make knives and carve the deer antler I use for the handles. If I've done this right there is a photo of one of my handles attached.
I want to do this kind of thing, maybe in a shallow relief, on metal.

Hi Briar,
If you get a sharpening fixture with some different V angle or flat templates you can sharpen all sorts of gravers points ,the basic I can suggest are V96,V116 and a flat and knife combination templates to start with the diamond bench stone set,for grinding the points ;

Also get some hss,M42,and some carbalt graver blanks to make these points from.When you make points from these blanks they will cut almost any metal.

Nice work there by the way, .

Where are you located in NC.? There are several engravers in the state that may be able to help you.

I am located about 30 miles inland from Wilmington. That's what I meant by "lost in da woods" LOL.

John Pilkington is in that neck of the woods. Although I can't speak for him, maybe he will see this and offer some help.
