recession proof, yes but is it gentle on hands?

I got this 10" tall bronze bell in today. It was chrome plated and needed to have the chrome removed where the boat name is to be engraved. It took me 3 hours of wet sanding to get the chrome off. My hands and back could sure feel it when I was finished. "Let them eat cake." or in my case chrome. I sure wish I had an apprentice to lay this kind of work on. First day on the job could have been really inspirational for a beginner. Never to old to be grunt I guess.
The entire bell will be rechromed when I am finished so I sanded clear away from the work area to be sure it doesn't get over buffed at the plater.
