Picture 1873 Winchester (Uberti) side plates. Critique please!

Picture Uberti 1866 Carbine, my first commission.
Everyone starts somewhere and obtaining greater skills is a lifetime event. This is my first commission. It is for a SASS Cowboy Action Shooter. Please comment. How can i get better if I don't know what is wrong?

Picture my first engraving
My SL chisel graver came in the post & I had to try it out. Not a bad first go but I managed to snap my M42 in half.lol. I removed the background with my Foredom but really need to get some more gravers for this. All in all I'm quit pleased.
