Default With Thanks to Roland Baptiste

Hi everyone.

In April I asked Roland Baptiste if he would alow me to engrave one of his designs. And a bit to my surprise he said Yes.
At the end of april I finished it exept for a litle line at the bottem saying "With thanks to Roland Baptiste" in Dutch.
Today I finished the text. And I am pretty pleased with myself.
Roland pointed out where I made the biggest mistakes and I did try to fix some of them but there are stil a lot af them. Next time I wil know even better what to look out for.
So Thank you Very much Roland

Hy Roland,
I keep on thanking you it seems. Glad you like the lettering.
I did not mirror the drawing before transfering it so it shows.

Looks great!

I just did a pair of ear rings for the ever-indulgent wife based on a 'scribble' by Carl Bleile

Yet another advantage of these forums - people just giving designs to other people.

Wauw Steve,
Is that the first work of your new Airgraver? Your E.I.W. must be happy with your constant practise!

Here is a closup from my litle work.

Hmm, maybe should have blurred the image a bit. Closeups are really unforgiving

Daniel

Actually I did those with my other system since it was handy at the time. But yeah, she's been taking advantage of all the little 'test' things I've been doing with my AirGraver, either claiming them for herself or giving them as gifts.

Daniel,

Your plate looks great! You are certainly not a novice at lettering. I consider fine lettering just as demanding as scroll. The average person has no idea what scroll is supposed to look like but we all look at printed letters every day and know exactly what they are supposed to look like. Thanks for posting your work.

Neat looking closeup Daniel!

The macro lens may not be forgiving but those of us who know how hard it is are.

Plus (especially with my own work) I'm getting more and more into the concept of 'normal viewing distance'. If it looks good under normal conditions then it looks good.

Of course, for some things that does mean a collector getting out a loupe so I keep practicing. :smash:

Wel Roger, actually I am or at least feel like it. In school I had some crap engraving lessons back in 1992. No lettering though. Started with lettering whenn I got my microscope end of last year. Think I did the same alphabet 3 times and some sentences. But being a goldsmith and handeling engravers for setting stone's for a long time now does give me a good head start. And with the Lindsay PC its just following the lines.
Still lettering scares the heck out me indeed because everybody knows how letters schould look. Just have to finetune the fine motorics in my hands.

Thank you Steve for being more forgiving then I am to myself! I will keep on practising to :yesnod:

Daniel,
Nice engraving on this plate. Thanks for the close up also, it really helps to see other's work up close like this. Like everyone else, I too like the lettering.
Great job!
Gene
